Brief Kingdom History:

The word "Survaek" is hardly twenty years old, almost as new as the empire itself. "Surv" is an archaic Khaitis word meaning "The Many Peoples," and "Survaek" a blend of the old word with a contemporary suffix to the effect of "Union of the Many Peoples." Survaek was initially formed as a confederation of small kingdoms along the Reed River, mostly pastoralist nomads but including the prominent city-state of Foedinei, against the expanding Kingdom of Raethon to the Northwest. The confederation already had the makings of a nation, with a shared language, customs, and pastoralist roots, as well as a de facto leader, King Raegar Khaitis. However, political unity was sorely lacking.

When Survaek finally defeated Raethon, razed its bustling capital, and massacred its royal family eleven years ago, the vast majority of participating tribes opted to leave the confederation, taking their respective claims to Raethon's former lands with them. King Raegar, commanding the Khaitis tribe, which in turn was sovereign over its traditional ally Foedinei via multi-generational family links, insisted that the Survaek remain whole. The resulting war lasted two years and ended with the execution of every monarch that had opposed Survaek and Raegar's assuming of the demi-god title "Survaekom:" Embodiment of the Union of the Many Peoples.

Meanwhile, in the islands south of Raegar's lands, King Huj Biedou of Byrnia's wife, Queen Reyeda Seldu of Rjjin, fell ill and died. Byrnia and Rjjin had long had a tense relationship characterized by cultural and ethnic divisions: Rjjin was a city-state of shipbuilders and merchants originally founded a few centuries ago by emigrant Khaitis, while Byrnia was a long-established kingdom with agricultural roots and a monarchy checked by strong peasant councils. The two had grown closer over the previous decade after the marriage of Biedou and Reyeda, but the queen's death put into question the rulership of Rjjin. Biedou claimed it for himself, while an assembly of Rjjin noble families claimed it their duty to select an ethnic Rjjin monarch to rule them. The resulting war began with the destruction of the Byrnian fleet, and the kingdom was crippled as Rjjin raided its coasts with impunity. When Survaekom Raegar offered his aid to Byrnia for the price of Biedou's fealty and adoption into the Khaitis family, the beleaguered monarch had no choice but to accept. Rjjin quickly surrendered, in return for the promise that Rjjin would not be razed and its nobility not massacred as Raethon's had been.

In the nine years since that time, both mainland Survaek and Greater Byrnia, referring to both islands South of the mainland, have begun to experience a flourishing of culture and prosperity unprecedented in the history of the region. However, the Grand Survaek Empire is young, and it is uncertain if the Union of the Many Peoples will stand the test of time.
